Bonnie Lou Swanson Devarenne, age 70, of Erie died peacefully, surrounded by family, Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at
Fairview Manor.
Born in Erie, PA on December 26, 1944 she was the daughter of the late William K. and Doris M. Edmonds Swanson.
Bonnie graduated from Academy High School, Class of 1962, she then graduated from the Saint Vincent’s School of
Nursing in 1965. Bonnie worked in the Urology Department of Beverly Hospital in Beverly, MA; she was very active
and loved to go to the Gym, loved her garden and being outdoors. She was the Erie Winter Carnival Queen in 1965.
Bonnie travelled the world and had lived abroad in South Africa for 12 years.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, William K. Swanson, Jr.
Survivors include, her son, Joe Devarenne and girlfriend, Stephanie Choie of Los Angeles, CA; her daughter, Nicole
Devarenne and her husband Peter Mendham, of Dundee, Scotland, her granddaughter, Matilda Olivia Devarenne
Mendham; her brother, Richard Swanson and his wife Lorel, of Erie; her sister-in-law, Jackie Swanson, of Erie, her
nephew, Brett Swanson and his wife Margie, of Erie; her niece, Kristen Swanson, of Richmond, VA; her niece, Heidi
Bemiss and her husband Roy, of Northeast, PA; her nephews, Dr. William Swanson and Randy Swanson, both of Erie;
she is further survived by several great nieces and nephews; a step-niece, Anne Marie Cataldi and step-nephew,
Aaron Gebadlo.
Her special nursing friends in Erie - Judy Gerard and Sharon Faulkner; and in Boston - Paul, Marcia, Adam, Erik and
Owen Donohoe, Bruce and Trish Hudson, Barbara Pyburn and Pam Dailey; and her friend from the gym in Boston -
Faye Dowling; Mary, Heather and Chelsea Green of Laguna, CA; her friends in Frankfurt, Germany the Bagehorn
family and in Sweden, Fredrik Mellgren and family and Thomas Mellgren and family and Louanne Griffith who
helped care for Bonnie.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to all those who gave their support and love to Bonnie and
to Fairview Manor and Lakeland Area Hospice for going above and beyond.
Services are private with burial in Draketown Cemetery in Edinboro. Arrangements entrusted to Burton Funeral
Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th Street.
