Beverly Jean Johnson Hart, age 73, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, June 20, 2013 following a brief but valiant fight against pancreatic cancer.
Born in Erie, PA on October 22, 1939, she was the eldest child of Helen Haynes Johnson and the late Gerald J. Johnson. Bev was a 1957 graduate of Academy High School and graduated from Edinboro State College in 1961 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught for several years at Tracy and Asbury elementary schools in Millcreek and the Campus Demonstration School in Edinboro. She also worked at The Swinging Gate in Edinboro and as an architectural reporter for McGraw Hill.
She and her husband Francis J. Hart were married on August 7, 1965. Together they enjoyed traveling, watching movies, getting together with family, and dining with friends. Bev enjoyed music and playing the piano. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Alpha Delta Iota, and belonged to a number of clubs with high school and college friends. Known as a loving and caring individual, she will be deeply missed by family and friends.
In addition to her father, Beverly was preceded in death by both her maternal and paternal grandparents and her father in-law, Francis J. Hart. Beverly is survived by her husband, Fran, her mother Helen Johnson and her mother in-law, Ann Hart. She is also survived by her brother Robert Johnson and his wife Cheryl of North Olmsted, Ohio, and her sister Barbara Johnson and her husband Timothy of Erie. She is further survived by her sisters-in-law Patty, Barb, Jean, and Teri Hart, and brothers-in-law, Dennis, Bob, and Jim. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, including her goddaughter Michele Dieterich (Todd) of North Ridgeville, Ohio.
Her husband and family wish to thank all those who showed an outpouring of their love and support during this most difficult time. The compassion of the VNA hospice team was greatly appreciated, especially that of her nurse Hope.
Friends may call at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street on Sunday, June 23, 2013 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm and are invited to attend a service at St. John's Lutheran Church, 23rd & Peach, at 11am on Monday, June 24, 2013, with the Rev. Roy Washill officiating. Burial will follow at Erie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 2216 Peach St., VNA Hospice Services of Erie Co., 2253 W. Grandview Blvd, or the charity of one's choice.
