Betty J. Wurst, 86, of Erie passed away Saturday June 27, 2015 at St. Mary’s Home West. She was the daughter of John and Margaret Hassler.
She is survived by her loving husband, Irwin Wurst, who she married in 1948 and on June 16, 2015 celebrated 67 years of marriage. Betty is also survived by son Thomas Wurst and wife Sandy of South Carolina, Karen Sturgeon and her husband Robert, Sharon Confer and her husband Thomas, Peggy Comstock and her friend Thomas, and Betty Harmle and her husband Patrick, all of Erie. Betty is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren as well as 3 children she cared for over the years, Hannah, Maureen, and Hunter. She was proceeded in death by her parents and 2 brothers John and Bill Hassler.
Betty loved cross stitching, knitting and would often quilt with her church circle. She also enjoyed reading and playing the bells at church. The Family would also like to give a special thank you to the nurses and staff at St. Mary’s West, as well as Great Lakes Hospice for their wonderful care of our mother.
Friends may call at Burton Westlake Funeral Home at 3801 West 26th Street on Monday from 4:00 till 8:00 p.m. Services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran church, 1002 Powell Avenue, with grandson Matthew Wurst assisting Pastor Gail Zachrison. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery following the service. Donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Humane Society of North West Pennsylvania, 2407 Zimmerly Road Erie, PA 16506.
