On Sunday, October 3rd, 2021 God called our mother, Betty A. Watson, home. We were blessed to have celebrated 100 plus years, a very full life, with our Mom. She was born on February 12, 1921 to Ruth and Fred Altenberger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Watson, Jr., her daughter, Ruth Bowes, son-in-law Ed Bowes, Sr., her grandson Eric Bowes and her great-great granddaughter, Adeline Ruth Borden.
She is survived by her children: Bill Watson (Arline) of Erie and Marjorie Quinn (Robert) of Girard; six grandchildren: Ed Bowes, Jr., (Corinna), Jim Watson (Katie) and Michael Smith, all of Erie; Elizabeth Dougan (Matt) of Girard, Melissa McVey (Chris) of Kensington, MD and Travis Smith (Fareen) of Costa Mesa, CA; and six great-grandchildren, Tiffany (Kasi) Borden, EJ Bowes (Cassie), Olivia, Harper and Clara Watson, all of Erie and Aria Smith of CA.
She is further survived by a brother-in-law, Bill Roth of Erie, a sister-in-law, Donna Chismar as well as many nieces and nephews.
Betty graduated from Millcreek High School in 1940. She was a loving and devoted homemaker. Betty was very active in her church, St. John’s Lutheran. She had a strong faith, willing smile and a sincere love for all people.
She was an avid reader, until her sight started to fail, and if she wasn’t reading, she was knitting or crocheting. She also loved to cook and didn’t meet a recipe she wasn’t willing to try. She also liked to bake cookies and breads and share them.
There will be no viewing hours. Friends are invited to attend a service at St. John’s Lutheran, 2216 Peach Street, Erie, PA 16502 on Friday, October 8th at 1:30 pm. Burial will be at Erie County Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are entrusted to Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services, Inc., West Ridge, 3801 West 26th Street, Erie, PA.
The family would like to thank the staff at Manchester Commons for the loving care Betty received and also wants to thank AseraCare Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Project Dignity or to a charity of one’s choice.
