Betty Smith

Betty Ann Smith, age 62, of Millcreek Township, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014 at her residence in Lake City following a courageous 14 year battle with cancer.

She was born in Erie on May 12, 1951, daughter of Richard E. and Betty Jane Phillips Jackson of Lake City.

Betty went to McDowell High School.

She and her husband were co-owners of Richard A. Smith & Associates Realtors where they worked side by side for over 28 years.

She was a lifelong member of Christ United Methodist Church, the Elks Club and the Fairview American Legion #742.

Betty enjoyed hunting, fishing, baking and cooking and was devoted to her family. She and her husband would often take their family to Walt Disney World. She has done mission work in Ghana, Africa where she sponsored a child named Apah A. Mensah Richard and still sponsors today.

She is preceded in death by two infant twin siblings, a brother, Richard Jackson; father in law, Frank Jackson; and a grandson, Joshua Smith.

Betty is survived by her husband of 47 years, Richard A. Smith Sr.; her children, Cynthia A. Flynn of Erie, Sheila Carlson and her husband Steven of Jamestown, Richard A. Smith Jr. and his wife Robin of Millcreek Township, Betty Ann Carbo and her husband Jerry of Shippensburg, and William David Smith of Erie; a sister, Joan Martin and her husband Robert of Lake City; a mother in law, Anita Jackson of Corry; 14 grandchildren: Suzanne, Heather, Roseanna, Richard III., Ronald, Adrienne, Billy, Rachel, Anthony, John, Giovanni, Mallissa, Beth and David; five great grandchildren: Alayja, Carmella, Armani, Orlando and Sophia; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W. 26th Street (at Powell Ave) on Saturday and Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend a service on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church 32nd and Zuck Rd with Rev. Leigh Pomero and Rev. John Hall officiating. Burial to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Corry.

Memorials may be made to Betty’s sponsored son Apah A. Mensah in care of the Burton Westlake Funeral Home.
