Betty Rice

Betty Evelyn Himes Rice, age 91, of Erie, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at LECOM at Presque Isle.  She was born on October 28, 1926, a daughter of the late Evelyn Himes.

Betty was a member of the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church.  She left our earthly hearts and arms to the heavenly arms of her loving family who have been patiently waiting for her.  She was an avid reader, loved crafting, crocheting, tea, good chocolate and playing cards with her sisters.  Betty was happiest when surrounded by her family, who she loved dearly.  She is at peace now and will be sorely missed by everyone that knew her.

In addition to her mother, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Rice, her son, Brian P. Rice and her sisters, Pauline Turco, Janet Swanson and Vivian Travess.

She is survived by her sons, Donald L. and Ronald J. Rice, of Erie and her daughters, Melody A. Rice, of Erie, Tammi J. (Jeff) Filutze, of Ripley, NY, and Betti L. ( Bob) Hawley, of Lexington, NC.  She is further survived by her sisters, Peggy Zimmer, of Erie, and Sandy (Jim) Bainbridge, of Ocala, FL and her sister in law, Beverly Kimet.

Friends may call at the Burton Wintergreen Funeral Home on Thursday, June 14 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., and attend a funeral service there on Friday, June 15the at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Karen Thompson presiding.
