Betty Ann Jensen, age 93, of Erie, passed away on Thursday July 7, 2016 at Manor Care. Betty was born on March 9, 1923, in Erie, PA, the daughter of the late Jens and Wilhelmina (Overgaard) Jensen. Betty was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School.
Besides her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Jensen, Sr.; her brothers and sisters: Laura Jensen, Christina Jensen, Christian Jensen (Virginia), Dorothy Johnson (Pete), Margaret Tansey (Richard), and Martin Jensen (Jeanne); and Uncle Jake Overgaard.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Linda Sanko; her sons: Paul Jensen, Jr. (Marcia) and John Jensen (Ann); her grandchildren: Brian Jensen (companion Candy Cilluffo and family), Becky Groenendaal (Jeff), Maggie Jensen, Lori Krause (Jason); and her great-grandchildren: Tyler Jensen, Scott Groenendaal, and soon to arrive Baby Boy Krause, all of Erie. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Betty met her husband while he was in the apprenticeship program at General Electric. They married on May 16, 1943. He passed away in 1986.
Betty was a lifelong member at Luther Memorial Church, where she helped run the rummage sale for many years. She was a member of the Danish Sisterhood and very active in the (former) Danish Club. Betty was also very proud to be a part of Sommerlyst, where she spent a lifetime of summers with her family and her Danish relatives. Betty was an avid bowler at the Cascade Club. She loved to make quilts. Her mother was a seamstress for Trask’s and she taught her well. Betty grew up on West Front Street. Her father was a fisherman on Lake Erie.
Betty was very good at feeding her family with good Danish food, including Aebelskiver, Frikadeller, Klejner, Suet Pudding and her favorite spring elixir, Strawberries and Rhubarb. Betty was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt, known to all by Mom, Nana, Grandma and Aunt Betty.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, 602 West 10th St. on Tuesday July 12th from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm, and are invited to attend a funeral service at Luther Memorial Church, 225 W. 10th St. on Wednesday July 13th at 10am. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
