Betty Heitzenrater

Betty L. Bish Heitzenrater, age 76, of Erie, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022 at St. Vincent Hospital surrounded by her family. 

She was born in Punxsutawney, PA on October 13, 1945, a daughter of the late Verna (Dinger) Bish and Palmer Bish. She graduated from Punxsutawney High School and worked as a VariTypist and Secretary. Before marriage, she was church organist at Grace Methodist Church and Frostburg Methodist Church.

On June 6, 1965 she married Charles E. Heitzenrater. After the birth of her sons, she was a homemaker. Her favorite times were those spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed counted cross stitch needlework that became gifts over decades. She also enjoyed gardening and flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Allen and Bob and a sister, Jean Deeley. In addition to her husband, Charles, she is survived by two sons, Brian Heitzenrater (Rebecca) of Greene Township and Steve Heitzenrater (Robyn) of Harborcreek, PA; and four grandchildren, Allyssa (Peter) Layland, Andrew (Jessica) Heitzenrater, Trent (Madison) Heitzenrater and Jared Heitzenrater. She is further survived by a brother Ken Bish (Diane) of Beaver Creek, OH; a sister-in-law, Wandamarie Bish of Blue Bell, PA; and a brother-in-law, Bill Deeley of Punxsutawney, PA. There are also many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are entrusted to Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Inc., Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Road. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Inurnment will be in Whispering Pines Cremation Garden.
