Betty Jo Bergquist, age 99, of Erie, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Sarah Reed Senior Living.
She was born in Kansas City, MO on October 2, 1922, a daughter of the late Floyd Earl and Grace A. Van Clay Bray.
Betty Jo was a 1941 graduate of Beaufort High School in Beaufort South Carolina. She relocated to Erie from Memphis in 2005. During her time in Erie she volunteered at the Salvation Army, Asbury Woods Nature Center and the VA Medical center. She was a Navy wife for 32 years when she was married to Commander Melvin D. Bergquist, Jr., MSC.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by a son, David A. Bergquist of Long Island, NY, two daughters, JoAnn Royer (Bob) of Chagrin Falls, OH and Andie Hertner (James) of Erie, seven grandchildren, Mary Cataldo (Fred), Peggy Fogliano (Michael), James Bergquist (Aimee), Robert Royer, Kathryn Cantor (Ryan), Matthew Hertner and Michael Hertner (Kirsten), nine great grandchildren, Joseph Cataldo and Victoria Cataldo Kuepp (Owen), John Fogliano (Madison) and Samantha Fogliano, Sean and Conner Bergquist and Isaac, Grace and Miles Cantor a niece, Reverend Mariola Bergquist and a great niece Anna Bergquist also survive.
A memorial service will be held at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral services, Inc., Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Road on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. with Reverend David Fugate, officiating. All CDC guidelines will be followed including wearing masks.
