Bertha Vogt, age 102, passed away, Thursday, August 20, 2015 at the Edinboro Manor.
She was born in Franklin Township, on November 20, 1912, a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Mitchell Vogt.
Bertha was educated in a one room school where she walked to and from a mile each way in all kinds of weather. After Franklin Township, she moved to Girard, PA where she lived until moving to the Edinboro Manor at the age of 98 years.
A hard industrious worker, she held various positions through her life, retiring from Marx Toys after 20 years of service. She was president of the XYZ Club (Extra Years of Zest) for two years and was a co founder of the Tri Boro Center in Fairview. She enjoyed doing crafts, making posters and flower arrangements. She also made beautiful hand made quilts from start to finish. Bertha was also a gifted poet and was proud to have the following poem published by the National Library of Poetry: Our Dear Father in Heaven, we thank you for this food, and for your care so kind and good. For Little things along the way, that we enjoy from day to day. Each little flower that opens, each little bird that sings, he made their glowing colors, He made their tiny wings, He made the sun that shines so bright, and all the twinkling starts at night, He made the trees, the mountains high, and fleecy clouds up in the sky. We thank you Father for these things and for all the blessing that you bring.
Bertha loved animals and nature and nothing brought her more joy than a walk through the woods with God’s creations all around her. She left a legacy of kindness, love and warmth to all that were fortunate enough to know her. She never failed to ask “is everyone all right”?
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers: Lenard and Albert Vogt; three sisters: Iva Mills, Clara Krautter and Stella Krautter.
Berth is survived by five generations of nieces and nephews.
No calling hours will be observed. Graveside service will be at Sterrettania Cemetery, West Rd, McKean, on Monday at 11:00 a.m with Reverend John Gerber officiating. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East, Girard. Condolences may be sent to www.Burtonfuneralhomes.com
