Benjamin L. Preston age 78, of Millcreek, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013 peacefully at his home.
He was born in Erie on August 29, 1934 a son of the late Walter L. Preston and Catherine Thomas
Preston.
Ben was a 1952 graduate of East High School and went on to serve in the United States Army.
He was a Police Officer for the Erie City Police Department for over 32 years, his last position as a detective in the I.D section.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Erie Lodge 7 and the Erie Retired Police Association.
Ben was a huge train buff and loved fishing and spending time on his boat “the Barsumar”
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Gidos Preston in 2012.
He is survived by two daughters: Susan C. Preston and Marjorie M. Preston both of Erie; three sister in laws: Cathy Sherman of CA; Peggy Fries of Erie; and Joan Klos of McKean; a brother in law, Peter Gidos of Erie; and cousins, Dick and Trish Walsh and Pat and Leo Kosobucki. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th St. on Monday from 2-4 and 6-
8pm and are invited to attend services there on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will be private in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
