Beatrice (Bee) L. Sellars RN, of Millcreek, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Manchester Commons at the age of one hundred years and 8 months.
Beatrice was born in Erie, on December 27, 1912 daughter of the late Leslie and Sarah Jackson Neigenfind.
She was a proud graduate of Perry Elementary School, Academy High School, Class of 1930 and the Hamot Hospital School of Nursing. When Bee completed nursing school, she was too young to be licensed to practice nursing. Her first job was as a private duty nurse for a Ripley man during his final illness. That family became Bee’s lifelong friends. Bee was then employed as an RN at Hamot Hospital for more than twenty years, followed by another twenty years at Millcreek Community Hospital.
She was a longtime community volunteer, both at the Westminster food pantry and as an advocate for the elderly through the VIGIL program of the Orphans’ Court of Erie County.
Bee was a lifelong reader, a wicked good Scrabble and Qwirkle player and an excellent knitter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her third husband, Charles Sellars, and her younger brother, Jackson P. Neigenfind.
She was the loving mother of two sons, Kim Freese and Randy (Anna) Freese, both of Erie; a daughter Jill (Giulio) Venezian of Baltimore, MD, and the adored grandmother of Sarah (Brian Malone) Venezian of Cincinnati, and Rachel (Robert Howell) Venezian of Silver Springs, MD, the great grandmother of five, and the cousin of Joan and Larry Ritter all of whom will miss her terribly.
Per her wishes there will be no calling hours or services and burial will be private in Erie Cemetery.
Bee’s family would like to thank her loving and attentive caregivers and friends, in particular, Iris Kittel, Joan and Larry Ritter, the thoughtful staff at Parkside Westminster, where Bee lived for than twenty years, as well as her personal physician, Dr. Joseph Leone, the staff at the Erie VNA Hospice, and all those at Manchester Commons for their care and compassion during her final illness.
Arrangements are under the care of Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 West 26th Street Erie, PA 16506.
