Barry Rider

Barry A. Rider, 67, died peacefully October 1, 2018 at his home in Erie, Pennsylvania surrounded by his family.

Mr. Rider was born on November 28, 1950 in Erie, Pennsylvania to Irwin and Laurel Rider.

He graduated from North East High School in 1968 and studied creative writing and business at Oxford University and Bowling Green State University. He had a successful 42 year career in the metal processing and recycling business.

He fell in love with Barbara Jane Wilkinson 49 years ago, and the two were married on September 6, 1970. They raised two children, Seth Rider of Evergreen, Colorado and Amanda Burgess of Erie, Pennsylvania. He has four loving grandchildren: Emma Hicks (15), Andrew Hicks (12), Chase Rider (8) and Levi Rider (6). His family meant everything to him.

Mr. Rider was an active member of the North East and Erie Communities and served on various boards including: the Erie Zoo, YMCA Swim Club, the Jewish Center, Temple Anshe Hesed and Lakeview Country Club.

He was a man of many passions.  Mr. Rider loved watching sports, driving sports cars, listening to live music, traveling, spending time with friends and family and writing poetry. Second only to his family, were the life-long relationships that he established with so many great friends. He is preceded in death by his father Irwin Rider. He is survived by his wife Barbara Rider; son Seth Rider and daughter-in-law Gina Rider; daughter Amanda Burgess and son-in-law Jeff Burgess; grandchildren Emma Hicks, Andrew Hicks, Chase Rider and Levi Rider.
