Barbara Omark

Barbara Smith Omark, age 93, of Springhill Senior Living Community, Erie, Pennsylvania, died peacefully in her home early Saturday, October 7, 2017.  She was born in Orange, New Jersey on June 11, 1924, and was the oldest daughter of the late Foster Thomas Smith and Marion Ford Smith.  Her sister, Shirley Smith Schmidt preceded her in death in 1968.

Mrs. Omark was a graduate of Cranford High School, Cranford, New Jersey.  She was also a graduate of Cazenovia Junior College in Cazenovia, New York.  Mrs. Omark was a member of the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Paul in Erie.  She was a board member of Sarah A. Reed Children’s Center and of the Erie Arts Center.  She was an active member at the Kahkwa Club, The Erie Club, and of the former Aviation Club. 

Mrs. Omark was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Warren R. Omark and by a granddaughter, Samantha Elizabeth Ellison. 

Survivors include two daughters: Lisa Ann Omark and her husband, John McLaughlin, of Woodbridge, CT and Kristina Karen Gillespie and her husband, Scott, of Solon, Ohio; two sons: Thomas Eric Omark and his wife, Darlene, of Erie and Carl Andrew Omark and his wife, Barbara, of Palatine, IL.  Mrs. Omark is survived by six granddaughters and two great grandchildren: Kristina Marie Dell, her husband, Mike, and their daughter, Haley, of Shepherdstown, WV; Laura Suzanne Omark, of Erie; Julia Katherine McLaughlin of Fairfield, CT; Kara Joann Warner and her husband, Sean, and their son, Cole of Idaho Falls, ID, Jessica Kathleen Omark of Palatine, IL, and Leah Marie Gillespie of Solon, OH.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26^th Street, Erie, Friday, October 13^th from 4:00 through 7:00 p.m.  A private funeral service will be held for the family.  Internment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
