Barbara Jordan

Barbara Jean (Clayton) Jordan, age 77 of Erie. The Lord saw fit to call her home on Resurrection Sunday April 1, 2018.

She was born July 16, 1940 in Osceola, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Lloyd Henry and Viola Sims Clayton.

Barbara graduated from Rosenwald High School, Class of 1958, where she started varsity basketball as a freshman.  She was a driver for EMTA for 17 years, retiring in 2007.  Barbara was a go-getter, energetic, a leader, and was loved by all.  She was a member of The Chosen Few Softball Team, and they were undefeated for four years.  Barbara was a devoted member of the House of Prayer, and a former member of Friendship Baptist Church.   She loved singing, Marvin Gaye music, softball, basketball, pool, and was an excellent seamstress.  Barbara was the main singer with the group Friendship Stars of Faith, and sang gospel music every Sunday on KOSE radio with the “Clayton Sisters” in Arkansas.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Vertia Clayton, Oberia Clayton Rofe, her daughter Vickie Allen Roberts, and great grandson Quashon Tate.

Survivors include her children, Augustus Allen, III, and Vanessa Allen; 11 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Luventria Holmon, and Dazer Mason, both of Erie, PA, Dorothy Clayton and her fiancé, Andrew Caldwell, of Kansas City, MO; four brothers, Larry Clayton and his wife, Jennifer, of Jacksonville, FL, Lloyd Clayton, Sr. and his wife, Carol, of Kansas City, MO, Melvin Clayton and his wife, Rosie, and Dennis Clayton, all of Pine Bluff, AR.

Friends may call at the House Prayer, 155 East 21^st Street, on Monday, April 9^th from 5 pm to 8 pm, and attend a service there on Tuesday, April 10^th, at 11 am.   Private burial in Whispering Pines Cremation Garden.
