Barbara J. Dykes

Barbara J. Spearman Dykes, age 60 of Erie, died suddenly Sunday, August 3, 2014 at St. Vincent Health Center.

She was born in Erie, Pa. on June 19, 1954 a daughter of the late Francis and Mary Dykes Spearman.

Barbara graduated from Academy High School, and the University of Buffalo.

She was a telephone operator with GTE for many years.

Barbara was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church which was Immaculate Conception Church until the merger.

She loved being with her grandchildren, and was a total “shopaholic” and loved flashy clothing and “Swag”. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers Robert Spearman Dykes and Roger Spearman.

Survivors include two sons, Steven Spearman and Ashley Spearman Watts both of Erie; ten grandchildren: Jeremy Williams, Sharamera Spearman, Steven Spearman, Jr., Tayona Spearman, Shawn Spearman, Neatra Spearman, Tyree Spearman, Kaleet Spearman, Tori Spearman and Demayia Watts ; and brothers Francis Spearman Jr. and Johnny Spearman along with a sister, Alberta Spearman.

Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 pm till 8:00 pm at Burton Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 602 West 10th St., Erie, Pa.16502 where Bishop Jessis Gavin and Reverend Andre Horton will share words of comfort beginning at 7:30 and are also invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church, 315 East 9th Street, with Father Thomas M. Aleksa celebrant.

Burial in Trinity Cemetery.
