Barbara Faluszczak

July 19, 1932 — August 11, 2015

Barbara Clare Flaherty Faluszczak, age 83, of Erie, PA passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at

Golden Living Center Walnut Creek.

She was born in Ogdensburg, NY, 19 July 1932, a daughter of the late Francis A. Flaherty and Mary H. Lawrance.

In Ogdensburg, NY, the Lawrance family was well known for supplying flowers to a large part of the east coast in the early to mid 1900’s. Barbara’s grandfather (Pop) was one of the original 15 who started FTD Florists. The Saint Lawrence Seaway always had a pull on Barbara’s heart. She spoke often of the grand times the family had at their camp on the water and at the Seaway Festival. She swam across the Saint Lawrence River when she was 15.

Barbara loved her cats Boots and Sparky. She loved to have tea parties with her granddaughters. Additionally, she was active with swimming and bowling with her friends, enjoyed travel, and loved to shop. She especially enjoyed spending time reading to the kids at the Erie Art House. Those who knew her well loved her homemade pies. A devout Catholic, Barbara showed her commitment to her faith through her membership in the Sisters of St. Joseph Associates.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother John Lawrance Flaherty and sister Nancy Flaherty Wilson; and grandparents: John Lawrance (Pop), Clara E. Hibbard, Thomas F. Flaherty and Julia M. Bews.

Barbara is survived by a sister Rosemary (Sister Mary Monica of the Order of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Watertown, NY); Stephen W Faluszczak, children: John, Mary, Ted (Connie), and Jim Faluszczak; three granddaughters: Charmaine, Anna and Kate Faluszczak ; and grandson, Mark McKenna. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews ; dear friend Monica S. Dauer of Ireland, formerly from Erie, and many friends at Kearsarge Place Apartments, Erie.

The family would like to especially thank the staff of Golden LivingCenter Walnut Creek (too many to name from Neighborhoods 1 & 4) and Regional Hospice, who helped during her final battle with pancreatic cancer.

At Barbara’s request there will be no calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East, Girard. Condolences may be sent to www.Burton funeralhomes.com. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to The Neighborhood Art House, 201 E 10th St, Erie, PA 16503.
