Barbara W. Doverspike, age 70, of Lake City, Pennsylvania, died peacefully at UMPC Hamot on Sunday, November 25, 2012.
Born Barbara Rowe Wilson, Barb lived in Erie most of her life and graduated from Strong Vincent High School. Barb enjoyed a varied career and worked for Hammermill Papers, Penn Radiator, Purolator Courier, H.A.N.D.S., the First United Methodist Church, and Westaways Estate and Household Sales.
Survivors include her partner of 26 years, Dorothy M. Konyha, of Lake City, her son Chester J. Doverspike and his partner John H. Leatherman of New York City, and her brother William E. Wilson of San Francisco, California and Paris, France.
Barb, an avid antique collector and estate sale dealer, loved attending antique shows and also enjoyed bird watching. A life-long bridge player, Barb played with high school friends for nearly 60 years.
Through the years, many benefitted from Barb's volunteer efforts, ar volunteer and a coordinator for the Cathedral's outreach Dinner Program. She was an usher at the Cathedral as well as a Mount Saint Benedict oblate. particularly her support of The Cathedral of Saint Paul Food Pantry where she was a regul
Barb loved classical and sacred music and also participated in the Chautauqua Choral Group. Barb noted, "Singing hymns in church is my way to worship God." Barb was most content when driving her John Deere lawn tractor.
Friends may call at The Episcopal Cathedral of Saint Paul, 134 West 7th Street, Erie, on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcome to The Cathedral of Saint Paul Food Pantry, 134 West 7th Street, Erie, PA 16501, Emmaus Soup Kitchen, 218 East 11th Street, Erie, PA 16503 or The Inner-City Neighborhood Art House, 201 East 10th Street, Erie, PA 16503.
