Audrey Spadacene

Audrey R. Spadacene, age 94, of Pittsburgh, PA, formerly of Erie, entered into her eternal rest on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 in Pittsburgh.

Audrey was born in Erie on October 4, 1923, the daughter of Rolland and Amelia Ponzinelli Behnke.  She graduated from Strong Vincent High School, and, as a girl and young woman, enjoyed Erie summers at the family cottage on Behr Beach and, whenever given the opportunity, traveling.

Audrey was a loving wife, mother and homemaker.  When her children were young, she was active in the Sacred Heart Grade School PTO and enjoyed being a Den Mother for her sons’ Cub Scout troop.  Audrey enjoyed sewing, knitting, doll-collecting and, until her final days, reading novels.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward L. Spadacene and by her brother, Rolland Behnke, and sisters, Phyllis Hannifen and Nancy Dylewski.  Audrey is survived by her brother, Duane (Betty Lou) Behnke and her children; Joan Spadacene Kroll (James) of Denver, CO; Rolland Spadacene (Fabrienne) of Pittsburgh, PA; and Edward Spadacene (Fumiko) of Kyoto, Japan.  Audrey also leaves behind to honor her memory five grandchildren: Michael, Jack, and Benjamin Kroll, Timothy Spadacene and Rhett Spadacene.  In addition, Audrey is survived by many loving nieces, nephews and their children.

    Friends are invited to call at the Quinn Funeral Home, West Ninth and Liberty Street, Friday from 4:00- 8:00 PM and are invited to attend a Prayer Service there Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
