Audrey Evans

April 23, 1928 — January 30, 2022

Audrey Cross Evans passed away early Sunday, Jan 30 at Independence Court of Erie with her daughter by her side.

Audrey was born in Erie Pennsylvania on April 23, 1928 to the late Sophia Martin Cross and William Leroy Cross.

She married Edward Evans in 1949.

Audrey graduated from Strong Vincent High School.

Audrey and Ed had two children, Cindy Andrus, husband Jim and a son William Evans, widow, Angie of Gastonia NC.  They had 4 grandchildren, Karen Andrus Malick (Rob), Jenn Andrus Barnes (Mike), Will Evans (Tricia), Matthew Evans and their mother, Cathy Evans.

They lived in Erie until 1978 when they moved to Gastonia, NC.  Audrey had a number of jobs in NC, coordinating hospital gift shop volunteers, working at credit unions and in the Home Health Care field.  When Ed died in 1990, Audrey stayed in NC for 10 years before moving back north.

She retired from the Saint Vincent FCU and Pulakos.

Audrey was always involved in her children’s lives thru PTA, Sunday School, Thiel Women’s Club and as the neighborhood Koolaid Mom.  She played in the bell choirs of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Gastonia and Christ UMC in Erie.

Audrey was known as a jack of all trades.  She cooked, baked, canned, sewed, knitted, typed, took shorthand and her most recent hobby was coloring.  She also had a great sense of humor.

Audrey totally enjoyed time spent with her great grandchildren - Nathan Malick of Erie, Samantha Barnes of Alabama and Chase Evans of Girard.  Her great grandson Connor preceded her in death in 2006.

Audrey would like to thank the Circle of Goodness at Holy Trinity in Gastonia for all of the prayers, cards and love over the 21 years since she returned to Erie.
