Arthur A. Freitas, age 74, of Erie passed away Friday, February 24, 2023 at the Erie VA Medical Center. Art was born July 3, 1948 in Erie the son of the late Arthur and Theresa (Perrino) Freitas.
Art was a 1966 graduate of Cathedral Prep and started attending classes at Penn State Behrend until he enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Art served in the 173rd Airborne “All the Way” and was awarded the Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medals upon his honorable discharge. After serving his country he returned to college and earned a bachelor’s degree. Art had worked as a supervisor at the former Hammermill/International Paper Co. He went on to receive another bachelor’s as well as a master’s degree from Edinboro University. Art worked for the Department of Public Welfare where he eventually retired.
Art volunteered as a shuttle driver for the VA Medical Center. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 67 and was active at St Julia Catholic Church. In his younger days he enjoyed his Tuesday night softball games with his friends and also fishing with his father.
Art is survived by his wife, Anna Marie (Waskiewiez) Freitas and his two daughters; Amanda Freitas and Andrea Bolash (Ryan), all of Erie. He is the proud grandfather of Genevieve and Ryan Bolash. Art is also survived by a brother David Freitas and his wife Karen of Oltewah, TN and his two sisters, Carol Trimper and her husband Anthony of Erie and Theresa Wilson and her husband Scott of Cave Creek, AZ. Along with many nieces and nephews.
Arthur was the heart, strength, and soul of his family. He was always available and selflessly dedicated to his family. He was immensely loved and cherished by them.
Friends are invited to call Monday, February 27, 2023 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge, 3801 West Ridge Rd. and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Tuesday at 9:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am in St. Julia Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum.
