Arnold F. “Arny” Vollbrecht, age 74, of Millcreek, passed away Sunday September 3, 2017, at his home, following a brief illness.
Arny was born in Erie on March 9, 1943, son of the late Karl F. and Eleanor Mitchell Vollbrecht. He graduated from Strong Vincent High School and attended Fenn College (now Cleveland State University).
Arny was a self-employed painting and remodeling contractor in the Erie area for many years. He was a member of the Erie Elks Lodge, BPOE #67 and the VFW Auxiliary. He enjoyed golf, bowling and was very active (along with his late wife) with the Lake Erie Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association and the Flagship Niagara League. Arny’s greatest enjoyments were spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Rosemary in 2016.
He is survived by his brothers; Bruce K. Vollbrecht (Phyllis) and Warren K. Vollbrecht (Diane); a daughter Vera Ellen Vollbrecht (Wesley);three step-sons; Jim Lay IV, Jeff Lay and David Lay and an aunt, Evelyn Michael. He is further survived by three step grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to acknowledge with deep gratitude the professionalism and care of the staff at Regional Home Health Care and Hospice, and also the care given by Caroline and Annette.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave.) on Wednesday from 4:00 pm until the time of the service there at 7:00 pm with Rev. Mark Hoffman officiating.
Burial will be private in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
