Arnold E. Bergquist (Arnie), age 86 of Fairview, PA, passed away peacefully at his residence on December 3,2021.
He was born in Jamestown, NY on July 10, 1935, son of the late Nils and Irene (Swanson) Bergquist.
He graduated from Millcreek High School with the class of 1953 and earned an accounting degree from Gannon University in 1958, graduating with honors. He served for two years with the U.S. Army as a Finance Officer, graduating from the U.S. Army Finance School at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, Indiana. He joined with two other CPAs to form Brown, Schwab, Bergquist & Co. Through mergers and steady growth, it became Malin, Bergquist & Company. Arnie loved working with his clients and was passionate about his work. He was awarded Gannon University’s Archbishop Gannon Medal of Distinction in 1998 and was the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1990.
Arnie was active in community service throughout his business career and his retirement. He was awarded the Advisory Board Life Membership by the Salvation Army with 50 years of service. He served for twelve years as a member of the Board of Trustees of Millcreek Community Hospital. He was a member of Holy Cross Church and served on the Parish Council and Finance Committee, was a member of The Kahkwa Club and served on the Board of Governors. In addition, Arnie served on other various boards and accounting committees in the Erie community. Arnie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, and playing golf and tennis with his buddies, which were among some of his favorite activities. He loved listening to music and enjoyed going to the Erie Philharmonic and the Chautauqua Institute.
In addition to his parents, Arnie was proceeded in death by his wife, Marilyn (Cook) Bergquist of 52 years, a son, Michael J. Bergquist, infant daughter Carrie, and infant grandson, Joseph Bergquist, and brother John Bergquist.
He is survived by his daughter Anne Shore and husband David of Mount Pleasant, SC., John Bergquist and wife Diann of McKean, PA, daughter-in- law Lisa Bergquist, brother Nils Bergquist, and special friend Natalie Cabelof; grandchildren: Kristen, Ryan, Julia, Olivia, Keegan, Marie, Matthew, Abigail, Sarah; and five great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott, Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge. 3801 West 26th St. Erie on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8pm and on Saturday from 9am until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, 7100 West Ridge Road. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 1022 Liberty St., Erie, PA 16502.
