Anthony (Mix) Rigazzi, age 100, of Erie passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 11, 1915 in Rocca Pia, Italy the son of the late Paul and Marietta Clemente Rigazzi.
A longtime resident of Eire, Anthony served with the US Army during WW II and worked for 37 years at Erie’s General Electric plant retiring in 1977.
He was an outstanding bowler and baseball player and also had coached Little League. Because of his bowling achievements, he was elected to the Erie District Bowling Congress Hall of Fame and also to the Metro Erie Chapter Sports Hall of Fame. Mix belonged to St. Paul’s RC Church and their Usher’s Society and was also recognized as the oldest member of the “Ice House Gang”
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James L. Birk; 2 brothers; Louis (Joe Krozak) and Adolph Rigazzi; a son-in-law, Robert H. Lee; sister-in-law, Nicolia DePalma; 2 brothers-in-law, Patrick Malizia and Mario DePalma.
Anthony is survived by his wife, Gloria Morosco Rigazzi; a daughter Cynthia A. Lee of Naples, FL and a son, Michael J. Birk and his wife Fleshia of Hampton, KY.
He is also survived by a brother, Esterino Rigazzi and 4 sisters-in-law; Jo Rigazzi, Carol Sobolewski, Jean DePalma and Patricia Malizia. He is further survived by 9 grandchildren, 9 great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. on Thursday from 12 noon until 5:00 PM and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Saturday at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Paul’s RC Church. Entombment will be in Calvary mausoleum. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
