Anthony J. (Tony) DiEugenio, age 91 of Martinsburg, PA and formerly of Erie, died Monday, June 1, 2015 at Homewood Retirement Center in Martinsburg.
He was born in Erie on September 3, 1923, son of the late Louis and Margaret DeSantis DiEugenio.
Tony was a student at Longfellow School, and graduated from Strong Vincent High School.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Tony was the owner and operator of DiEugenio’s Superior Shoe Service and Tony’s Tip Top Shoe Repair, family businesses in downtown Erie for more than 70 years. He also worked with Boston Shoe in the former Boston Store.
Tony was a long time member of St. Peter’s Cathedral, and Monsignor William Biebel was a special friend.
He was a sincere individual, who valued people and relationships more than possessions. Tony was a gentle person, devoted to his family and the customers he served. Tony was an avid old movie buff, and a huge Frank Sinatra fan who would spend his Sundays watching old movies and listening to Frank.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Florida Berarducci DiEugenio July 30, 1991, a sister Mae Wehrle; brothers Henry and Romeo DiEugenio, and his half-brother Samuel.
Survivors include his daughter Carol DiEugenio of Lawrenceburg, IN, son James DiEugenio of Long Beach, CA, and daughter Janice Kearney of Duncansville, PA; grandchildren: Bettina Thompson and James Thompson of Lawrenceburg; Shelly Reighard (Chris) of Altoona, PA; great grandchildren: Christopher, Joel, Julie, Ryan and Chad Reighard all of Altoona, PA; sisters Mary Will and Josephine Rinehardt both of Erie, PA; Dena Spong of Yorkville, OH, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th St. on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. and are invited to a prayer service there on Friday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Peter’s Cathedral, 230 West 10th Street at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Msgr. William E. Biebel presiding. Entombment will follow in Calvary Mausoleum.
