Annie Thomas

Annie Thomas, age 94, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2019 at St. Mary’s East.  She was born in Cheraw, SC on February 16, 1925, a daughter of the late Handy and Lena Nesbitt Newton. 

While growing up, she attended South Carolina School Systems and was a member of Mt. Zion Church in Cheraw.   After moving to Erie, she had worked at St. Vincent Health Center as a dietitian and belonged to Mt. Ebal and Morning Star Churches.  She was a co-founder of the Mt. Ebal Baptist Church and served on the Mother's Board.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Samuel, Prince, Doc and Handy; and a granddaughter, Samone Grayson. 

Annie is survived by her children, Lena Thomas of Erie, Robert Thomas and his wife Mary Susan of E. Springfield, Munin Abdul Rahmaan of SC, Russell Thomas and his wife Pat and Barbara Donaldson, all of Virginia; and a sister, Eliza Brodie.  She is further survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

Family will receive friends at Mt. Zion Church, 7415 Hwy 52, Cheraw, SC, 29520 on Saturday July 20^th from 10 am until the time of the service at Noon. Funeral arrangements by Reid’s Funeral Home, 108 Kershaw St., Cheraw, SC.   Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
