Annie Lockett

Annie L. Stokes Lockett, age 70 of Erie, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018 at UPMC Hamot.

A longtime resident of Erie, PA, Annie was born in DeSoto, Mississippi on April 21, 1947, daughter of the late Charley Stokes and Luberdir Sumling Barnett.

Annie graduated from Shirley Owens High School in Mississippi.  She worked at the St. Martin Center and JFK Center for a number of years.  Annie later retired from the Gertrude A. Barber Center after twelve years of service.

She was a dedicated member of Holy Trinity Church of God in Christ, where she participated in Bible Study and was a part of the Mother’s Board. Annie enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, playing piano, spiritual music and shopping.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Richard, her son, Jeffrey, four sisters, Celia B. Stokes, Ida Mae McQueen, Bitha Heidelberg, and Sadie Warren; two brothers, Alzono Stokes and Charley Stokes, Jr., a grandson, Willie Joe and a granddaughter, Ebony.

Survivors include two daughters, Valerie Lockett Slupski (Shawn) and Tatrice Lockett Gaines (Joe), her stepdaughter, Cheryl Jones, son, Timothy Lockett, stepson, Tony Holloway Sr., four sisters, Minnie Sumling of Quitman, MS, Mammie Johnson of Pittsburgh, CA, Mary Wolverton of Laurel, MS, Lucille Middleton, Quitman, MS; best friend, Earnest Blakley, and best friend and sister, Mildred Burns. Twenty-three grandchildren, sixty-one great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10^th Street Erie, PA, on Saturday, February 17^th from 11 am until the time of service at 12 noon with Pastor Willie Harris officiating.
