Anna Szuba

January 4, 1922 — June 29, 2017

Anna R. Szuba, age 95, of Fairview, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2017, at St. Mary’s Home at Asbury Ridge.

She was born in Union City, PA on January 4, 1922, a daughter of the late John and Eva Kolega Krol.  Anna graduated from Union City High School.

Anna worked at General Electric.  She also worked at ERISCO Industries and retired from there after many years of service.  For most of her life she was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and in recent years had been a member of St. Julia Roman Catholic Church.  Anna enjoyed socializing, playing pinochle and dancing.   She liked to eat Burger King Hershey Sundae pies and loved sweets.  She loved spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She went to every school and sports activity they were in.  Anna also enjoyed having her great-granddaughter Hailey paint her fingernails.  She was very active into her nineties. 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard “Barney” Szuba, two sons, William “Billy” Szuba and Bernard “B.J.” Szuba, six brothers, John, Walter, Stanley, Joseph, Andrew and Frank Krol and three sisters, Mary Pozna, Katherine Silka and Frances Dasynicz.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Kloszewski and her husband Edward, of Fairview and three grandchildren, Starlynn DeCarolis and her husband Robert of Erie, Jason Kloszewksi and his wife Cassandra of Pittsburgh and Kristen Kloszewski and her significant other, Tom Phifer of SC,.  She is further survived by her great-grandchildren, Skylar and Hailey DeCarolis, a great-granddaughter due in August, a brother, Ted Krol and his wife Barbara of Union City, two sister-in-law’s, Mary and Irene Krol of Erie, extended family, John, Sarah, Helena, and Madalyn Darby and Joseph Chmielewski, all of Pittsburgh and grandpuppies, Sugar, Opie, Piwo, Misia and Luna.

Anna’s family would like to thank all the wonderful, caring staff at St. Mary’s Asbury Ridge, especially caregivers, Mirjana, Yahtzee and Carolyn and Lisa from the cafeteria for treating Anna with such dignity, respect and tender loving care during her stay. Thank you to Tom and Kathleen from Great Lakes Hospice who also helped her on her journey.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, (at Powell Avenue) on Saturday from 3 p.m. until the time of service there at 5:15 p.m.

Burial will be private in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the A.N.N.A. Shelter, 1555 East 10th Street, Erie, PA 16511.
