Ann McElroy age 90, of Erie, passed away January 30, 2013, at St. Vincent Health Center.
She was born in Erie on May 3, 1922, the daughter of the late Herbert L. McElroy and
Jean Gensheimer McElroy Hoppin.
Ann was a 1940 graduate of Strong Vincent High School, received her Bachelors from
William and Mary College and her Masters in science from Case Western Reserve. She was a second Lieutenant in the US Army Medical Department in WWII as a physical therapist. During her career, she worked at the VA Hospital in Hines, Ill, the Shriners Children's Hospital in Lexington, KY, The Kauikeolani Children's Hospital in Honolulu, HI, the Western MD State Hospital in Hagerstown, MD, Mt Sinai Medical Center, Highland View Rehab Met. Center and Sunny Acres Hospital in Cleveland, OH.
Ann served on the Clinical Faculty of 12 Universities and contributed a number of articles to Professional Journals. She also served internationally with World Health Organization in Port au Prince, Haiti from 1956-57 and was a chief P.T. for the Oil Intoxication Program League of the Red Cross Societies in Meknes, Morocco from 1960-61.
Ann was a "Who's Who of American Women", 1991-92 Edition. A member to the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant and the Delta Sigma Sorority. She loved to travel, photography, and shell collecting.
She is survived by her cousins Elizabeth McElroy Geer of Fairview and Col. And Mrs. Robert McElroy of S.C. and several nieces, nephews and second cousins.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th St. (at Powell Ave.) on Wednesday from11am. until the time of service at 1pm. with Rev. Timm High officiating.
