Andrew C. Hillhouse, age 88, surrounded by his loving family, died peacefully of an extended illness on Wednesday, December 1st, 2021 at Bickford of Presque Isle Bay in Erie, PA. He served in the US Army at Fort Benning in Georgia and was honorably discharged after 6 years of service, as a Private 2nd Class.
One of Andy’s passions was golfing. Being from a Scottish decent, he was an extremely avid golfer with a handicap at one time as low as 7. In high school, he was the Caddy Master at the Lawrence Park Golf Course. He played golf for many years at Gospel Hill and Green Meadows Golf Courses and met up with a group of good friends for an annual golf outing at Oglebay Golf Resort in Wheeling, WV. His other passion was woodworking, including cabinet-making and antarsia. He made many beautiful pieces of furniture and works of art for his family and friends over the years.
He worked at GE for 42 years and retired in 1992. His career started in their tool and dye apprenticeship program and before retiring, he was the General Manager of the Locomotive and Parts Customer Service Office.
After retirement, he lived with his wife Harriet between Leesburg, FL and North East, PA. He was kind-hearted person who would always lend a helping hand without looking for anything in return. He had a great sense of humor and had a way of joking with you with a serious look on his face.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 67 years Harriet A. Hillhouse (Olson); 2 sons - Richard and Donald (Renee) Hillhouse, both of Erie, PA; 2 daughters - Barbara Bish of Tallmadge, Ohio and Betty (Daniel) Davis of White Haven, PA; 8 grandsons - Daniel, Sean, Zachary, Mitchell, Ethan, Evan, Demetrius and Dakota; 2 granddaughters - Alyssa and Noelle; 5 great grandsons - Luca, Blake, Emmett, Austin and Ayden; 1 great granddaughter - Bria.
Preceded in death by father Hugh and mother Isabel (Hannah) Hillhouse.
Friends may call at the Burton Quinn-Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Inc., Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Road, on Saturday, December 11th, 2021 from 1 p.m. until the time of service there at 3 p.m. with Reverend Don L. Fisher officiating. He will be laid to rest at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial donations be sent to Interim HealthCare Hospice, 2206 West 15th Street, Erie, PA 16505.
