Amy Straus

Amy Ellen Straus, born 1/5/71, passed away 8/26/15 unexpectedly after a lifelong struggle with a rare kidney

disease. With courage and good humor she faced it and built a life of achievement and love for family and

friends. She attended Temple Anshe Hesed Religious School, Sisters of Mercy Art and Music School, Church

of the Covenant Youth Group in early life. After graduation from Mercyhurst Prep she went to Pitt and

resided in Pittsburgh. In the following years there she pursued her passion of caring for animals, including

her buddy Gracie the cat. This evolved into the caring of people and she earned her nursing degree and

practiced her profession with distinction for several years until medical needs made this no longer possible.

Her humor, courage and compassion will be missed by all. She is survived by her brother Randy, father

Albert, stepmother Judy Letcher Straus. She was preceded in death by her mother Marlene. Family and

friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 602 West 10th Street on Saturday from 7 to

9pm and Sunday from 10 am till the time of services at noon with Rabbi Emily Ilana Losben-Ostrov; burial

will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. In in lieu of flowers donations may be made, in Amy’s memory, to the

Humane Society of Northwestern PA 2507 Zimmerly Rd., Erie, PA 16509.
