Amy Jo McGill, aged 33, passed away peacefully at home in Fairview Pennsylvania on November 28, 2023 following a valiant battle with colon cancer.
She was born in Erie on July 13, 1990, the daughter of Jack and Bonnie McGill.
Amy faced many obstacles throughout her life, diagnosed with cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities, and epilepsy but she was always strong-willed and resilient. Her spirit and strength never wavered, even after her diagnosis. Throughout treatment she continued to join friends for activities at Voices for Independence, rode her favorite horses at Hope on Horseback, and did CrossFit with the Functional Performance Group. When she wasn’t spending time with her friends, Amy loved to hang out with her sisters, swim in her pool, ride her bike, watch the Erie Otters play, and paint or color. She could quote Hocus Pocus through and through and loved her dog LuLu, who she affectionately referred to as “her honey.” Amy loved deeply, gave the best hugs, and the toughest high 5’s. She truly made an impact on everyone in her life. She showed us all that true happiness means finding joy in the little things and living in the moment - unless her birthday was within six calendar months. Then she would announce “my birthday’s coming up…” and tell you her wish list.
Amy will be forever loved and deeply missed by her parents Jack and Bonnie McGill; sisters Wendy Farver, Ashley Chase, and Sarah Goard (fiancé Michael Oas); her niece Layla; all her extended family and countless friends that became family.
She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Gertrude and Jack McGill Sr., her maternal grandparents Shirley and Earl Farver and an uncle David Farver.
Our family would like to thank everyone that made Amy’s life a little brighter, especially on her toughest days.
We ask that you please join us to celebrate her life by wearing your brightest colors on Friday December 8th for visiting hours from 4p – 7p at Burton Funeral Home of Girard, 525 Main St East. Private burial to follow.
