Alvin Reid Eliason, affectionately known as Al, was born on December 27, 1943, in Erie, Pennsylvania, and grew up on his family's farm in Waterford. He was the son of the late Carl and Hannah Mae Gem (Yaple) Eliason. Al sadly passed away on January 25, 2024, at the age of 80 at his home.
Al leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Mary Terrill-Eliason, for 57 years. They first met as students at Fort LeBoeuf Jr./Sr. High School. Together, they raised three children: Lynn Klick and her husband, Keith, David Eliason and his wife, Kristyn, and Karen Hodas and her husband, Daniel.
Al's favorite role in life was being a Papa to his six grandchildren: Jordan Klick, Taylor Klick, Layne Eliason, Nicholas Hodas, Lauryn Eliason, and Alyson Hodas. He took immense pride in supporting his grandchildren in their active and athletic pursuits, always cheering them on as their biggest fan.
Al is survived by his siblings Carl Dean Eliason and Ronald (Sue) Eliason of Waterford, PA, and Betty Lou (Robert) Ames of Colorado Springs, CO. and a nephew, Rich (Cindy) Widdowson, who was like a brother to him, his sister-in-law Judy (Joseph) Kula and brother-in-law Joseph (Clare) Terrill, along with many nieces and nephews.
Al's strong bonds extended beyond blood relations. He had a group of beloved friends, including his dedicated friends Bill Kuhn and Andy Lenart. He cherished memories of his late friends Ted Rdzokweicz, Larry Fox, and George Welka.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Al's sister-in-law, Judy Kula. She dedicated countless hours caring for Al during his final days, serving as a true angel on earth.
Al was a talented engineer who worked for R.M. Kerner Company. He played a significant role in designing parts for the military and manufacturing industries. Al's ingenuity was unparalleled; he could design and build anything he set his mind to. He constructed his beautiful home and had the remarkable ability to fix anything. His expertise in mathematics was extraordinary, as he could mentally solve complex calculations and invent until his last breath.
Al's passion for projects was evident in his time spent in "the barn." He loved working on various endeavors, including restoring and fixing antique tractors. He also involved his grandchildren in these projects, ensuring the bond of shared experiences. Al took pride in building luxury playhouses for his grandchildren and cared for his horses, antique tractors, and snowmobiles.
Annual hunting camp and beef roasts with his friends, Ted and Bill, were treasured traditions for Al. Despite his tough exterior, Al had the biggest heart, and his family meant the world to him. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, as he made each one feel like the most important person in the world.
Al was preceded in death by his loving parents, siblings Sennie Widdowson, Dolores Havern, and Shirley Eliason, as well as his brothers-in-law, Bob Terrill, Ron Widdowson, Joe Havern, and sisters-in-law, Mary Terrill, Alice Eliason and Linda McFadden.
