Allie R. Smith, age 90, of Erie, died on Friday August 24, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 20, 1928 in Houston, Mississippi, a daughter of the late Henry and Gaynelle Buggs Smith.
She moved to Erie and attended Academy High School. She retired from the Redevelopment Authority as a manager after 30 years of service in 1993.
Allie was involved with many different organizations including being one of the founding members of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center. She participated in several clubs, Playmates, Hilite, and Sinya to name of few, which helped young people learn etiquette and life skills. She bowled in the PG, Soulsville and Poinsettia leagues. She was an active member and trustee of St. James AME Church and family was her greatest passion.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Sylvester Smith, her daughter, Rev. Deborah Ann Adams and her sister, Ada Mae Osbay
Allie is survived by her children Ronald (Carol) Smith and Pamela Jean Smith, all of Erie. She is further survived by 11 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call on the family at St. James AME Church, 236 East 11th St. on Saturday, September 1, 2018 from 10 am until the time of the service at 12 noon with Reverend Dale Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Burton Funeral Home, 602 W. 10th St.
