Allie D. “Al” Boykin, 83, was born on October 10, 1931 in Crockett County, TN to the late Ed and Sally Drake Boykin.
He departed this life on June 7, 2015 after a brief illness.
He was employed by General Electric for 39 years from September 1963 to 2002.
He loved his children, grand and great-grandchildren and loved to tell stories and make them laugh. He loved his “Peach tea” and Pepsi and was an avid bowler.
He sang tenor in various Gospel groups starting with the Painesville Wonders, The Silver Tones, Natural Tones, Golden Bells and others as well as recorded several songs.
He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Clara B. Emerson Boykin and children Roman Wayne (Marie), Clarice Womack, Carlene, Michael and Amy (Clifton) Collins of Erie, PA and Alice Faye of Arlington, TX. He is survived by one sister, Pearlie Mae Boykin of Humboldt, TN, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceding him in death are brothers, WZ, William, Joe, Nathan, Dan, and Countee and sisters, Ara Howell, Ardessa Hicks and Ezella Arnold.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th St. on Friday from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., with praise and song held from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service there at 12 noon with Pastor Gale Thornton, Eulogist and Reverend Darrold Hobson, officiating.
