Alice M. Hudder, PhD., age 63, of Erie, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at the Cleveland Clinic, following a brief illness.
She was born in Long Island, NY on February 12, 1960, a daughter of the late, Paul and Phyllis Raiken Hudder.
Alice earned a Regents Diploma from WT Clarke High School in Westbury, NY, a BA and Masters degree in Biology from Hofstra University, a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Miami, and a Masters of Medical Education from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM).
Last year, she retired from the position of Professor and Director of Biochemistry and Medical Genetics at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM), yet continued to serve the students in various roles as Professor Emerita. Prior to relocating to Erie, she held the position of Assistant Professor at Wayne State University School of Medicine. In the early stages of her professional career, she held a number of scientific research and lab positions at the University of Miami Medical School.
Alice’s primary passion was the study of science, as evidenced by the number of articles and papers published in many of the top journals of science. In her spare time, she enjoyed SCUBA diving (swimming among sharks), rock climbing, photography, volunteering her time to various local charities, bicycling, physical fitness, and most of all playing alto and soprano saxophone with many of the tri-state area jazz artists.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, David Hudder.
She is survived by her partner, Richard Molder of Erie; a niece, Katie Gosen of Columbus, OH and an aunt, Betty Hudder of Rockport, MA.
Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge 3801 W. 26th Street on Wednesday, from 2:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a prayer service there on Thursday, at 10:15 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Jude Church 2801 W. 6th Street, Erie Pa 16505 at 11:00 a.m.
