Alice Gardner

September 1, 1917 — December 25, 2012

Alice Engel Gardner, age 95, formerly of Allegheny Road, died on Tuesday December 25, 2012 at the Autumn Winds Retirement Lodge in Schertz, TX.

She was born in Warren, PA on September 1, 1917, the daughter of the late William A. and Inez Louise Stanton Engel.

She was a member of both Cascade and Christ United Methodist Churches, and a 1935 graduate of Strong Vincent High School. She was an Avon Representative for 19 years. She was a member of the Betsy Ross Chapter No. 385 O.E.S., the Wings of Shasta International, N.C.T. (Masonic Travelers), the Erie Women's Club, and was also a Grottoette. She served on the boards of Irving, Roosevelt and Strong Vincent Schools' PTA and was the first Vice President of the City of Erie Parent Teachers Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton F. Gardner, a son, William A. Gardner and a sister, Jane Evanhoff.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John (Gretchen) Towry of Cibolo, TX; a son, Robert C. Gardner of Pagosa Springs, CO; a daughter-in-law, Emily Gardner of Erie; a sister, Leah Faulhaber of Concord, NC; seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, (at Powell Avenue) on Friday January 4, 2013 from 5-7 PM and are invited to attend services at the funeral home on Saturday January 5th at 11 AM with Rev. Pamela Gardner and Rev. Michelle Wobrak officiating.

Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
