Alice Duer

March 26, 1942 — January 24, 2016

Alice Duer, of Millcreek, beloved mother, grandmother, healer and friend, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at her home.

A native of Springfield, OH, Alice was the daughter of Elizabeth and Arlo Hockman. She graduated from Northwestern High School and studied at Bowling Green University.

Alice was a trainer at PNC Bank until she retired and began a new career as a gifted massage therapist. Alice studied at the School of Healing Arts in Cary, NC and began her own business, Keep In Touch Massage, where she as a Reiki Master offered Reiki and other healing modalities. She was very active in Wayside Presbyterian Church as a Deacon, retreat leader and leader of the health and wholeness committee. Alice was also a devoted gardener and a member of the Fairview Garden Club. She was a strong advocate of Al-Anon and she embraced opportunities for exploring life and learning.

Alice is the mother of two daughters, Deborah Duer and Jacqueline Duer Hughes, mother-in-law to Jay C. Hughes, loving grandmother to Dillon Taylor Hughes and Emma Elizabeth Hughes and a friend to Tango, our dear Australian Shepherd.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. followed by a celebration luncheon of Alice’s life on Friday, January 29, at Wayside Presbyterian Church, 1208 Asbury Road, Erie, PA 16505.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, Erie, PA 16506.

Flowers may be sent to Wayside Presbyterian Church and memorials may be made to the Heart Association, 3025 French St, Erie, PA 16504, Alzheimer’s Association, 1128 State St #301, Erie, PA 16501 and Because You Care Animal Shelter, 6041 West Rd, McKean, PA 16426.
