Alfred Silveus

December 26, 1931 — August 11, 2015

Alfred “Darrell” Silveus, Sr., age 83, of Erie, PA, died on Tuesday August 11, 2015 at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie, after a lengthy illness. Prior to his death he was a resident at the Village at Luther Square.

Darrell was born December 26, 1931, in Dundee, OH, the son of the late Lina King Silveus Brown and Samuel Silveus, Sr.

He was raised and educated in Dundee, OH, and was the oldest of six children. He moved to Kentucky in his late teens, and enlisted in the National Guard. He was very proud to have served his country, and would often tell stories about his time in the service.

Darrell retired from Aspen Tree Company, where he was employed for nearly 30 years. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union No. 126.

Known for always wearing his black framed glasses, Darrell was a simple man, social, and had a distinct laugh. He loved his daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and looked forward to visiting with them as often as he could. Many people had known him also by Poppy, a name given to him by his oldest grandchild.

He loved nature and animals. He was a gun collector, loved southern food, cooking, and insisted on making his own birthday cakes every year. Darrell had a unique sense of humor, loved to tell jokes, and will be remembered for always speaking what was on his mind.

Besides his parents, Darrell was preceded in death by two children, Alfred “Al” Silveus, Jr., and Theresa Silveus, and a brother Samuel Silveus, Jr.

He is survived by his daughter, Tina Silveus of Erie, Pa; sisters Kathleen Young of Erie, PA and Alice (Duane) Brown of New Philadelphia, OH, and two brothers, Joe and Dallas Silveus of Dundee, OH. His grandchildren Shatoia (Rosoce) Silveus-Carroll, Corinne Silveus-Willcott, Rotesha Silveus and Keyvon Silveus; great grandchildren Queanna, Sania, Tavion, Natavia, Israel, Jason and Samira, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th St. on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. with Pastor Curtis Jones, Jr. officiating.
