Alfred Victor Mangano of Erie, PA, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Monday, April 7th, 2025 at the age of 86. Aside from seven childhood years in Sicily, Alfred spent his life in Erie, where he was born on September 17th, 1938 to the late Maria and Anthony Mangano.
Following his graduation from McDowell High School in 1958, Alfred served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany. Several years after returning home, he and his older brother Philip (who predeceased him) opened and co-owned Victor’s Shoes, a more than 30-year Erie staple for expert customer care and the highest quality shoes. After Alfred retired, he spent most of his time caring for his three beloved grandsons, who all considered Rosa and Alfred’s house their second home. Alfred was also a self-taught handyman, with his family benefiting from his wide range of expertise.
Alfred is survived by his loving wife Rosa, whom he met in Galati Mamertino in the summer of 1970 while visiting friends and family in Sicily, a vacation which forever changed both their lives. After a brief six-week courtship, Rosa and Alfred were married August 8th, 1970, and then spent their one-week honeymoon sailing from Naples to New York. Last summer, they celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.
Alfred is also survived by his daughter Yvonne (Warren) Levy, son Richard Mangano, and daughter Ashley Mangano, all of Erie, as well as grandsons Devin, Jake, and Giovanni. A true family man, nothing made Alfred happier than spending his days with those he loved the most.
