Alfred Birkner

June 11, 1929 — January 3, 2014

Alfred J. Birkner, age 84, of Lake City, passed away Friday January 3, 2014 at Pleasant Ridge Manor West. He was born in Erie on June 11, 1929, the son of the late Andrew and Anna Bast Birkner.

He served in the United States Army and had worked for High Pressure Valve and Fenestra Corporation in maintenance. He was a member of the Lake City United Methodist Church. Alfred enjoyed fishing and hunting, woodworking, carving and working on clocks. He especially loved his family. He will be sadly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers: Allen, Clifford and Andrew; and two sisters: Laura Ellis and Jacqueline Bailey.

Alfred is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Margaret Luke Birkner; his son Mark L. Birkner of Girard and his daughter Linda Diane Miller and her husband Charles of Boiling Springs, PA; five grandchildren: Ryan, Darren and Nathan Birkner, Carrie Stine, and Paul Miller; two great granddaughters: Chloe Birkner and Charliee Stine and his sister, Eleanore Weihrauch of Florida. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call at Burton Funeral Home 525 Main St. East, Girard Tuesday 3-6pm and are invited to attend services 11am Wednesday at the funeral home All Faiths Chapel with Reverend Brock Beveridge officiating. Burial will be in Girard Cemetery.
