Albert H. Pede, age 101 , formerly of Walnut Street, Erie passed away Friday October 23, 2015 at Pleasant Ridge Manor West.
He was born in Erie, on June 30, 1914, the son of the late Benedetto and Annunziata Fiorelli Pede.
Mr. Pede was a graduate of Tech High School, Class of 1934 and served is the U. S. Army Air Corp. in Europe, as a Sergeant in the 389th Bombardment Group during WW II.
Albert then served as a policeman for the City of Erie police force for twenty-one years retiring in 1968 as a Sergeant. He was past president of the F.O.P.
He was a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church.
In high school he played football and basketball and was captain of the Tech basketball team that
held Academy without a field goal, setting a record as the first time that had been done.
He continued to be active throughout his life as a racquetball and handball player at the Downtown
YMCA.
He won numerous awards in handball and was named "Man of The Year" by the Handball Club of Erie, in 1980.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Christine Kienholz Pede; four sisters: Elizabeth, Florence, Anna and Angeline; and two brothers: Dominick and Anthony.
He is survived by family friend Rose Gonda; sister in law, Judy Miller and her husband Harry; and a nephew, Michael Schlack.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, 602 West Tenth Street, on Monday, from 4-7pm and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church 1617 Walnut Street Erie PA 16502 on Tuesday at 10 am with Fr. Amico, Celebrant.
The Erie Retired Police Officer Association will hold a brief service at 4:30 pm on Monday at the funeral home.
Entombment will follow in Calvary Mausoleum with full military honors.
Memorials may be made to the St Paul’s Roman Catholic Church.
