Albert J. Ferraro, 91 passed away peacefully on June 18th during a brief stay at St. Mary's East.
He was born in Erie to the late Frank and Genoeffa Ferraro and preceded in death by his brother Joseph Ferraro, his sister Gilda Selvaggi and this past October, by his wife Fleda Ferraro.
Al was a graduate of Academy High School and Gannon University. In 1942, while still under age at 17, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp where he served as a sergeant in WWII. Upon completion of service, Al attended Gannon University for his business degree. He discovered his lifelong passion shortly after, when he took a position with Universal ClT Financial Services, which serviced the automobile industry. In 1956 Al began in automobile sales and in 1960, he opened his first dealership, Ferraro Ford Sales, Inc. in Girard, PA.
A, enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the automobile business. He also founded Ferraro Ford Sales, lnc., in Erie and managed College Ford in Edinboro, PA. He loved his Fords until he retired as Vice President of Ferraro Ford lnc., in North East, PA. in 2008. During those years, Al was recognized repeatedly by the Ford Motor Company and received their Distinguished Achievement Awards for his continuous commitment to sales and outstanding customer service. Al cared deeply for his employees and his customers throughout his years in business. He served on many civic boards and was a member of several local social clubs and organizations including The Erie County Automobile Dealers Association.
Al was a passionate sportsman, sports enthusiast, and a lifelong New York Yankee fan.
He was an avid hunter. Al sponsored numerous teams and tournaments in bowling, Little
League, softball and golf, but most will undoubtedly remember his baseball team in the Glenwood League as the crown jewel of his sponsorships. Al's legendary Ferraro Ford baseball teams was a magnet for baseball talent in the tri-state area. From 1965 through 1971, the Ferraro Ford teams amassed an incredible .815 winning percentage, and won two state championships.
Al will always be remembered by his family and friends for his kind heart and huge personality.
Survivors include his sons, Frank Ferraro (Ginnean) of Salida, CO, Tom Ferraro (Cathy)
daughters, Patricia Bruno (Mark) and Julia Ferraro of Pittsburgh, PA. Grandchildren, Leslie,
Raechel, Megan, Michael, Samantha, Dean, Allie, and Tessa along with eight great- grandchildren. He is also survived a host of longtime friends and several members of his extended family.
Friends are invited to join our family at La Nuova Aurora Society, 1518 Walnut St. in Erie on July 18th, 2018 from 5 to 8pm to celebrate the life of Albert and to share stories of a life lived to the fullest. Funeral arrangements were provided by Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. Friends may send their donations to the Sisters of St. Joseph Neighborhood Network.
