We lost a gentle giant, Al, Alan, Alfie, Alvin, Albert, Big Al, Unk, Redinger, age 79, on March 6, 2021, to complications from kidney stones.
He was born in Erie on May 4, 1941, a son of the late Harold F.Sr. and Dorothy Lyon Redinger.
Al was a magnet to people wherever he traveled. Whether with someone young or old, he could talk about any subject, but his true love was sharing the gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Grace, Plus Faith, Plus Nothing: Romans thru Philemon (read Acts 9 first).
Al was a master carpenter by trade. His grandfather gave him a basket of hand tools at the age of 3 and that was the beginning of a lifelong passion for carpentry and woodworking. He was greatly helped by a teacher who took the time to help him understand and apply the mathematical skills needed for his trade. At the age of 13, he began working for this father’s companies eventually striking out on his own and joining the carpenters union Local 81. His accomplishments include the Blasco Memorial Library, 100 State Street, Penn State Behrend Library, GE Learning Center, and others too numerous to name.
His most recent achievement was becoming President of his father's companies, Redinger Realty Inc And Alan Builders Inc, selling off what remained of commercial and residential buildings and closing down the businesses.
He was well known by the community for his integrity and craftsmanship. He will be truly missed by many, but the twinkle in his eye will long be remembered by all whose lives he touched. Al was also an avid body builder, winning many competitions in younger years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded by death by two daughters, GermaineRedinger, and Carol Avery; a brother, Harold F. Redinger Junior; a sister, Gloria Hennies. Also lost a dear friend of over 60 years, William J Larsen, of Phoeniz, Az, on Febuary 25, 2021
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Hurst Redinger; a son Harold A Redinger; two stepsons, Scott and Eddie Redinger; two daughters, Kerri Yenchak and Cheryl Niebauer; a stepbrother, Gary Kaiser; and a sister, Lory Usko; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call with all CDC guidelines at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm and on Friday from noon until the time of service at 1:00. Burial will follow at Sterrittania Cemetery.
